Give your jacket the care it deserves.
Our expert guide on how to help you care for your jacket, giving it a longer life while maintaining a beautiful good condition. Regular care is the key to preserving the beauty of your jacket.
We recommend cleaning your jacket with a soft, dry cloth after each use. Gently wipe off the dust, and for a more thorough clean, use a slightly damp cloth and then follow after with a dry one. Use a leather cleaner occasionally in soft circular motions. Make sure to always test the product on a hidden area to ensure it suits your leather type. A mild solution of lukewarm water mixed with non-detergent soap can help remove minor stains from your jacket. To remove the stain, gently dab on the stained area; avoid rubbing as it can spread then stain or push the product deeper into the leather, causing damage. In case of spillage, clean the jacket by dabbing it with a clean, dry cloth; refrain from rubbing as it can push liquid deeper into the jacket. Using heat to dry out the jacket is not advised, as it can make the leather brittle and stiff. Air dry the jacket naturally in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight or gently blot the wet area with a dry cloth.
Prevent your leather from drying out, fading, or cracking by conditioning it every 4-6 weeks. Conditioning ensures the leather will stay supple and soft and increases the life of your jacket. Apply a small amount of leather conditioner to a dry cloth and gently go over your jacket, rubbing the product in the leather. Give it a few minutes to absorb, and then go over your jacket with a clean cloth, removing any excess product. We recommend a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight, heat sources and humidity for storage. The fading of the leather can be caused by direct sunlight.
In contrast, heat and humidity can dry out the leather, causing cracks and warps, which, in the end, decrease the life of your jacket. In snowy or wet conditions, protect your jacket by applying a waterproof spray or wax, as it seals in moisture. Spread the product evenly all over the jacket, and make sure it is completely dry before wearing it.
We highly recommend storing your jacket in a breathable garment bag instead of plastic covers while using wide or padded hangers, as they help maintain your jacket's shape. Breathable garment bags offer air to pass through, which prevents mold and mildew buildup, making your jacket last longer and in excellent condition. Wire hangers are not recommended as they cause indentations on the shoulder area, damaging the shape of your jacket. Hanging the jacket in a well-ventilated area for a couple of hours can naturally smooth out minor wrinkles over time through the jacket's weight. For quick wrinkle removal, use a handheld steamer, keeping it at a distance of 6-8 inches, and gently go over the jacket. Keep the steamer at a distance to prevent overheating the leather. Overstuffing of pockets is not encouraged as it can cause permanent, irrevocable damage by stretching the leather and distorting the shape of your jacket.
DIY treatments are not encouraged as they can cause permanent damage to the leather. A professional cleaning is recommended for tough stains and repairs. Address minor damage, such as loose stitching, small tears, or stains, in a timely manner to increase the life of your jacket. Perfumes, hair sprays, or deodorants should not be applied directly to the leather as they can easily stain and damage it.
By following this guide, you can increase the life of your jacket while maintaining its beauty and softness and keeping it in excellent condition. The rewards of proper care are worth the effort.
